PTA vs. DMSEF
Two seperate organizations. One shared vision.
At Carmel Del Mar, our children are surrounded by magic, enrichment, and opportunities that go far beyond what state funding provides. This is possible because of two separate parent-led nonprofit organizations: the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF).
Here's a breakdown of the difference between the two:

PTA

The PTA is made up of parent volunteers who help fund and organize everything that makes school feel joyful, connected, and heart-centered. Our focus is on building community, supporting teachers, and bringing enrichment to daily student life.
THE PTA FUNDS:
-
School-wide assemblies and guest speakers
-
Classroom materials and educational subscriptions
-
Family events like movie nights and socials
-
Field trips and in-school experiences
-
Spirit wear and fun incentives
-
Teacher mini-grants and appreciation
-
Recess equipment and so much more
Annual Parent Ask:
$200 per student
Your donation brings joy, color, and community into the everyday rhythm of school.
DMSEF

The Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF) is a separate nonprofit organization that raises funds to support STEAM+ teachers in the Del Mar Union School District. These are the credentialed specialists who bring hands-on learning to students in:
-
Science
-
Music
-
Art
-
Physical education
-
Innovation & Technology
STEAM+ teachers are employed by the district, but a significant portion of their funding comes from parent donations through DMSEF.
Annual Parent Ask:
$800 per student
This amount helps reach the districtwide goal of $1.4 million

Why It Takes Both
The PTA and DMSEF are two separate organizations with separate missions, budgets, and leadership. But we work side by side to give our children the very best.
-
The PTA enhances the culture and experience of school — through events, supplies, and support.
-
The DMSEF provides the credentialed educators who teach specialized subjects.
When you give to both, you are investing in a public school experience that mirrors the enrichment and quality of a private education — for less than $1,000 per year.
